Like Trampled By Turtles' Wait So Long, Ravenna Woods wear their freneticism like a badge. They are the honor guard, guiding chord and rhythm precariously close the edge, but never letting them pass into chaos. From that first arpeggiated guitar chord, I'm ready for a journey. I'm ready for an adventure. I'm ready to be dragged into the darkness with these guys, into the bottom of that lake full of demons. And when singer Chris tells me, "Our blood is American soil," I feel an unexpectedly deep sense of companionship, and I'm ready for anything. And by the way, don't they get an unbelievably full sound out of effectively just acoustic and percussion? Check out the live video of this track. The harmonies are a little rough, but you know what? I don't care.
