In the interest of full disclosure I should say that when I first heard this song, I immediately contacted Samantha and asked if I could produce a record with her. She said no, that she already had one in the works with Michigan songwriters Rachael and Josh Davis and started a kickstarter project to prove it. That was back in January. Since then I've heard nothing from her and my google searches have only yielded her myspace, which hasn't been logged into since 2009. That doesn't really surprise me since on her Facebook page she has Me, Myself, and I listed as contacts for manager, booking and press, respectively. God forbid it be easy. Today I finally found some demos of the new stuff and, I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed to find that she's abandoned her twee soul for a more filled out, tremolo soaked T Bone Burnett knockoff that so many folk singers are trying out these days. But I'm hardly saying it's bad. It's not. Mavis Staples would be proud to have made the recordings Samantha's putting out. But for me, I'd rather have 74 minutes of Mr. Conductor.
