Oh man, Jeff Tweedy would be proud if he'd written this track. And I'll make no apologies for admitting that my predilection for Wilco is why I latch so hard to this tune. It's Jesus, Etc., the sequel, but that's fine with me. I will admit the lyric 'maybe love will bring us home,' is a risk. With a less able delivery it could be construed to be at best insipid and at worst a turn-that-damn-thing-off intolerability. But it works. And quite well, actually. Certainly better than when a certain venerable Duluth songwriter had the audacity to rhyme 'road' with 'knowed'.
Beginning with a nice homage to the Album Leaf, and ending in an almost orchestral swell of trumpet and harmony, The Brighton crafts a tune that makes me feel like I'm right where I belong: home.
